Kuala Lumpur: India defeated the mighty Netherlands 4-3 in a thrilling quarter-final match to reach the semi-finals of the Junior World Cup of Hockey. After trailing by two goals in the first half, India came back to win. They will face Germany in the semi-finals on Thursday.
Timo Boers in the 5th minute and Pepijn van der Heidien in the 16th converted penalty corners to give the Dutch a 0-2 lead. In the second half, India brought out the aggression. Arjun Lalage opened the account in the 34th minute. Arijit Singh Hundal did not make a mistake in the penalty stroke received in the next minute (2-2).
With Olivier Hortensius scoring through a penalty corner in the 44th minute, the Netherlands took the lead again (2-3). Saurabh Kushwaha scored India’s equalizing goal in the 52nd. Captain Uthang Singh also scored the winning goal from the penalty corner in the 57th minute.
