Johannesburg: India in the semi-finals of the Under-19 Cricket World Cup. India defeated Nepal by 132 runs in the second match of the Super Six round. Nepal could not overcome the target of 298 runs raised by India on the strength of captain Uday Saharan and Sachin Das’s century. Nepal could score only 165 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated over.
Captain Dev Khanal who scored 33 runs is the top scorer in the Nepal team. Dargesh Gupta (29), Arjun Kumal (26), Deepak Bohara (22) and Akash Chand (19) also crossed double figures. Other scorers were Uttam Thapa Magar (8), Bishal Bikram, Gulsan Jha (both one), Deepak Dumre, Dipesh Kandal (both nil) and Subhash Bhandari (5). Soumy Pandey (4), Arshin Kulkarni (2), Raj Limbani, Aradhya Shukla and Murugan Abhishek took one wicket each for India.
Earlier, India had set a target of 298 runs against Nepal. India’s batting was a way to confirm the decisions of captain Uday Saharan who won the toss and chose to bat. India scored 297 runs in 50 overs. Uday Saharan and Sachin Das scored a century for India to build a good total.
Sachin Das’ contribution is 116 runs off 101 balls. This was an innings consisting of 11 fours and three sixes. The captain scored 100 runs in 107 balls accompanied by nine fours. Both were returned by Gulsan Jha. Opener Adarsh Singh (21), Priyanshu Molia (19) and Arshin Kulkarni (18) are the other three who were out. Gulsan Jha (3) and Akash Chand (1) took wickets for Nepal.
Last game’s lightning star Musheer Khan remained unbeaten with nine runs. India, who lost three wickets while scoring 62 runs, later reached a big total on the wings of Sahara and Sachin. A wicket fell later when they reached 277 runs.
