After winning the toss at the Chennai MA Chidambaram Stadium, the Aussies were bowled out for 199 in 49.3 overs. Ravindra Jadeja, who conceded only 28 runs in 10 overs, took three wickets and opened the middle for the Aussies. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets each. The top scorer for the Aussies was Steven Smith who scored 46 runs. David Warner scored 41 runs. He lost opener Mitchell Marsh (0) in the third over. Virat Kohli caught at slip off Bumrah. Later, Warner and Smith added 69 for the third wicket.
But Kuldeep returned Warner with a return catch. Later, Jadeja came to bowl. Jadeja returned three important wickets. It started with Smith being bowled. Then Marnus Labuschein (27) was caught by wicketkeeper KL Rahul. In the same over, he trapped Alex Carey (0) in front of the wicket to complete his three-wicket haul.
