India Attacked by Mysterious Fever Outbreak, 40 People Killed-Hundreds Hospitalized

Jakarta

India reported outbreaks of ‘mysterious fever’ in several regions, including Uttar Pradesh. There are dozens of people who died, including children, in a week.

Quoted from the Independent, more than 40 children and 12 adults have died, while hundreds of people are being treated in hospitals in eastern India, local officials report.

Therefore, the minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath ordered the bed capacity in hospitals to be increased.

He has also asked the district health office to carry out a detailed investigation of the cause of the fever.

What are the symptoms besides fever?

In addition to fever, the patient complains of joint pain, headache, dehydration, and nausea. In some cases, Nuga patients experience a decrease in the number of platelets and rashes on the body.

Anything to do with COVID-19?

Those who died from the mysterious disease tested negative COVID-19 and no association was found with the ongoing pandemic.

Ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Manish Asija from Firozabad, called the situation worrying. According to him, the cause of the spread of the disease outbreak could be due to stagnant water, lack of sanitation and hygiene.

Cases have been reported from the Firozabad, Agra, Mathura, Mainpuri, Etah and Kasganj districts of the state.

There is a suspicion of dengue fever

Some doctors suspect it is dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral infection that is widespread in Southeast Asia. However, the state government has denied any connection to dengue fever.

Mr Adityanath said that the first case of the mysterious febrile illness was detected on 18 August. He added that a team would be formed as soon as possible to carry out an investigation.

The family of a six-year-old boy, who died after three days of high fever, said things worsened quickly when he took the boy to hospital in Agra, India.

“Ten minutes before we reached Agra, he breathed his last,” he said.

Scrub typhus

Deaths have also been linked to scrub typhus, according to a report by Live Hindustan. Samples taken from the village of Koh Mathura were found to be infected with scrub typhus.

Scrub typhus, also referred to as bush typhus is caused by bacteria passing through the bite of an infected viral mite. Symptoms begin within 10 days of being bitten, similar to vector-borne diseases. Symptoms include fever and chills, headache, body aches, rash and muscle aches.

Several schools were again closed, especially in affected areas, amid the government’s decision to allow face-to-face schooling again after a long absence due to the pandemic.
