Colombo: India’s 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup starting in October has been announced. Malayali wicketkeeper Sanju Samson is not in the 15-member World Cup squad. Ishan Kishan has been named as the back-up wicket-keeper in the World Cup squad while KL Rahul has returned to Battermara.
Chairman of the selection committee Ajit Agarkar and captain Rohit Sharma announced the squad for the ODI World Cup, excluding three players from the team playing in the Asia Cup. Apart from Sanju Samson, Tilak Verma and Pyath Krishna who are part of the Asia Cup team are out of the World Cup team. Hardik Pandya is the vice-captain.
There were indications that Tilak Verma would be included in place of Suryakumar Yadav, but the team management decided to put faith in Suryah’s power hitting. Captain Rohit Sharma said that Shardul Thakur has been selected as the fourth pacer as the fourth pacer in the team. Rohit clarified that the best available team consisting of three all-rounders, four pacers and seven batsmen has been selected.
