India and France Joint Venture Manages Kualanamu Airport

Kualanamu International Airport in North Sumatra is now managed and developed by the GMR Airports Consortium. The consortium company consists of the original GMR Group India dan Aéroports de Paris Group (ADP) asal French. The management is categorized as strategic partnership cooperation.

“The management and development of Kualanamu International Airport is carried out with a strategic partnership scheme for a period of 25 years,” explained PT Angkasa Pura II (Persero) or AP II in an official statement, Tuesday (23/11).

The value of the cooperation reached US$ 6 billion or equivalent to Rp. 85.6 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 14,268 per dollar) including investments from strategic partners of Rp. 15 trillion.

This partnership combines the resources of Kualanamu with the consortium. It is hoped that through this collaboration, Kualanamu Airport will become the main international hub and gateway in the western part of Indonesia.

AP II and GMR Airports Consortium will become shareholders in the joint venture company, namely PT Angkasa Pura Aviasi, where AP II has a majority stake of 51 percent. While the rest is owned by GMR Airports Consortium.

Deputy Minister of SOEs 2 Kartika Wirjoatmodjo said this partnership would accelerate the development and increase the competitiveness of airports in the Asean region.

“This strategic partnership can strengthen the capital structure and strengthen the application of global best practices in the management and development of Kualanamu International Airport. Meanwhile, the current assets, as well as the results of asset development in the future, will be fully owned 100 percent by AP II,” said Tiko, greeting her familiar.

AP II President Director Muhammad Awaluddin said that in looking for partners, his party determined a number of criteria, such as having experience and a network of airports and international airlines to be able to develop routes and airline services in Kualanamu.

Through this collaboration, he targets the passengers of Kualanamu Airport to be 54 million people per year, equivalent to the current passengers of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
