Finding out the truth in the very remote mountainous region of the Karakoram is almost impossible, but it is certain that tensions between the two armies have increased sharply. It is the first time since 1975 that both armies have fired at each other again. A few weeks ago, for the first time since 1967, people were killed in a scuffle between Indian and Chinese troops.
For years, the border troops along both camps were not armed with firearms after a mutual agreement, but that is no longer observed. Since the beginning of the summer, tensions in the Karakoram have increased sharply. India and China are strengthening their positions there. The Indians are also building a new road to better connect their positions.
