India Achieves Historic Soft Landing on Moon’s South Pole on Modest Budget

India has become the first country in history to make a soft landing at the Moon’s South Pole. And this was done on a very modest budget.

What is known

The Indian mission is called Chandrayaan-3. She started over a month ago. Last week, the lander made a soft landing at the Moon’s South Pole.

According to Reuter, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) spent only 6.15 billion rupees on the mission, i.e. about $75 million. For comparison, the Luna-25 mission, which ended in the crash of the interplanetary station, cost the Russian budget $130 million.

SpaceX spends about $67 million on each Falcon 9 rocket launch, while Falcon Heavy missions cost almost $100 million. But the Artemis lunar program budget is $93 billion and will continue to grow.
