Index – Sport – Suhajda Szilárd’s wife: I don’t want my husband’s body to be brought down from Everest

Szilárd Suhajda gave his last sign of life on May 23 last year, when he set out to climb the 8,848-meter peak of Mount Everest. When the tragedy became certain, an entire country mourned. His wife, Tímea Legindi, repeatedly emphasized that she did not want Szilárd’s body to be brought down from the mountain, and now her statement has become relevant again.

A Glance according to his information, the Nepalese authorities announced that Sherpas are setting out to clean the mountain – with the help of 18 soldiers of the Nepalese army – they collect the garbage left on the mountain during the expeditions, and it is said that among their tasks is to bring down the bodies of five alpinists who died there. This year, they want to rid the mountain of 10 tons of garbage, and since 2019, around 110 tons of waste have been brought down from the Himalayas. The news spread that Suhajda Szilárd’s body could be taken down, but his wife confirmed again: there is no such thing and there can be no such thing.

I do not want Szilárd’s body to be brought down from Everest, this is my personal determination and decision. There are several reasons behind this. On the one hand, his body was not found during the search. On the other hand, such a research expedition is very difficult, and those who attempt it may put themselves in danger

Tímea Legindi said.

Only in extreme cases are the bodies brought down

He knows that it rarely happens that family members try to bring down the corpse of a climber. As he mentioned, it was true that the family of an American climber had to launch such an expedition due to an inheritance case, however, if there is no such reason or religious conviction behind the mission, then according to him, it is unnecessary to disturb the body of the person who died there.

In addition, as highlighted, the mission is considered superhuman and very dangerous. He cited as an example that previously it took almost a day to rescue a helpless mountaineer from the first altitude camp of the Broad Peak (8051 meters) – the first camp located above the base camp – for which more than a dozen people had set out – and in that time they managed to get him back to the base camp. And that hasn’t even happened in the peak region.

Suhajda Szilárd’s widow recently gave an interview for the first time, in Zsuzsa Csiztu’s podcast, she talked about how she still does not consider herself Suhajda Szilárd’s widow, but his wife, and also talked about why she has been silent in recent months.

Szilárd Suhajda attempted a summit attack on Mount Everest in the spring of 2023, from which he did not return, and the searchers did not find him either. His widow previously announced that they will cherish his memory, among other things, they will prepare a calendar and even publish a book of the climber’s writings and diary entries.
