After a long and serious illness, the icon of Hungarian sports shooting, Dr. László Hammerl is an Olympic champion, Olympic medalist, national team captain, the athlete of the nation – announced the Association of Hungarian Sports Shooters.

Hammerl connected his life with sports shooting from a very young age, at the age of 22 he won the Olympic champion title in Tokyo in the 60-shot horizontal competition, and he also won a bronze medal in the 3×40-shot composite event.
Four years later, he completed his Olympic medal collection with a silver medal in Mexico City. From 1977, he was the national team captain of the Hungarian sports shooting team. He was a highly knowledgeable professional recognized all over the world, he had an excellent understanding of the language of the competitors, and he was credited with winning numerous Olympic, world and European championship titles and medals. In 2004, he was chosen as the athlete of the nation.
His eternal connection with the sport remained, he often visited shooting ranges and helped sport shooting with his opinions and insights. Dr. László Hammerl is considered by the Association of Hungarian Sports Shooters to be its own dead.
The first and second wives of László Hammerl, Éva Fórián, and the world champion and European champion Éva Joó were also selected sports shooters. His son from the latter marriage, Hammerl Soma, is also a successful sports shooter, after the successes achieved in age-group competitions, he won a gold medal in the men’s air rifle team competition at the European Games in Poland last year in the company of Zalán Pekler and István Péni.
