Index – Sport – An honorary member of the Hungarian Olympic Committee has died

MOB announced the sad news on its website. It has been written that Iván Medvegy died at dawn on 3 December after a long illness.

They recalled that Ivan Medvegy won a youth championship at a young age, and then graduated from the College of Physical Education as a fencing coach and teacher. Subsequently, he was the head coach of the Budapesti Honvéd SE pentathlon team (among others, during the Olympic champion’s competitive period, the general secretary of the MOB László Fábián and János Martinek), as well as the club’s vice president.

In 1999 he was tournament director of the pentathlon world championship in Budapest, which was organized with great success.

At that time he wrote the book Azöttusa története together with various authors. He worked for more than a decade at the Hungarian Olympic Committee as a senior sports associate and was a member of the Hungarian team and delegation at many Olympics.

On 15 March 2013, he was awarded the Civil Division of the Hungarian Order of Merit. He resigned from his active role in the MOB in spring 2015, after which he lived as a pensioner in his house in Szőgliget, but did not distance himself from sport and the sporting profession. In 2015, he was awarded the MOB Medal of Merit and became an honorary member of the general assembly of the Hungarian Olympic Committee, according to the in the MOB obituary.
