As we wrote, due to the cold front, severe thunderstorms may develop in the northwestern and northern areas from late afternoon. HungaroMet issued a warning for several counties. In addition to lightning, stormy gusts of wind and hail are also possible.
On Monday afternoon, the supercells were the first to reach the county of Győr-Moson-Sopron.
Torrential rain and pea-sized ice fell in northwestern areas.
The thunderstorms washed away Sopron, Mosonmagyaróvár, Mosonszolnok and Ágfalva, among others, reports Időkép.
After the inflow of cold air, the temperature dropped several degrees: the air cooled down to 13 degrees Celsius in Sopron.
In addition to the county of Győr-Moson-Sopron, the cold front also reached the county of Vas. The Kőszegi Weather Forecast shared a video on its social media page about how hail accompanied the thunderstorms.
The warning was issued for several counties
A first-degree warning is in effect in the counties of Fejér, Győr-Moson-Sopron, Heves, Komárom-Esztergom, Nógrád, Pest, Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, Vas and Veszprém.
A second-degree orange warning was issued for the county of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén.
In addition to lightning, the wind and hail that accompany thunderstorms are also a risk, because of this.
Cold air waves will bring precipitation, but predictably this will not be enough either. According to HungaroMet’s agrometeorological analysis, rain would be needed mainly in the Great Plain. From the point of view of spring sowing, the top 20 centimeters of the soil in this area is in a critically dry state.
Morning frosts may also return
A cold front ends the April summer: on Monday, you have to prepare for rain and even thunderstorms in many places. From the middle of the week, the precipitation tends to decrease, but the temperature drops significantly. During the hottest hours, only 10-16 degrees Celsius can be expected, and in colder places, light morning frost may return. The wind will be strong in many places.
Predominantly cloudy weather is expected on Tuesday, with rain and showers in many places, and in the southeastern third of the country, in addition to the sunny periods, prepare for strong cumulus clouds with showers and thunderstorms in some places. The north-west, north wind will strengthen in a large area. In the morning, 9-15 degrees are expected, and the peak value will be between 9-24 degrees. It will be colder in the northwest, where the maximum will be reached in the morning, 23-24 degrees is likely at the southeastern border, but from midday the air will cool there as well.
