Index – Foreign – The joint weapons program of Iran and North Korea can continue

According to experts, the arrival of North Korean Minister Jun Jong-ho increases the risk that Iran and North Korea will cooperate in their weapons programs.

The last time a similar delegation visited Iran was in 2019, when Pak Cholmin, the former vice president of the Supreme People’s Assembly, discussed cooperation between the two countries. Diplomatic relations have existed between Pyongyang and Tehran since 1973, MTI reminds.

Armament and escalation

In the early hours of Friday, April 13, Israel attacked Iran with drones. The target was an airbase near which there is a nuclear facility in the city of Isfahan. Iranian officials said the country was not hit by a missile attack.

Conflicting information has emerged about whether Tehran notified the United States and neighboring countries of its airstrike. The biggest question is what kind of counterstrike Israel will decide on in response to the 300 missiles and drones fired from Iran, and how Tehran will react to it – since both sides would have weapons for the escalation of the situation in the Middle East.

According to experts, Iran is only trying to create the appearance of the possibility of a larger retaliatory strike, but avoids escalation.

As we wrote about on Index the other day, Tehran continues to insist that its nuclear program does not serve armaments, but only civilian purposes. Iran “is not currently engaged in key developmental activities necessary to produce a testable nuclear weapon” – quoted the Telegraph of London is the latest assessment of US intelligence.
