Index – Economy – There is gas, Hungary’s security gas reserves have been reduced

According to the decision of the Minister of Innovation and Technology László Palkovics, Hungary’s strategic gas reserves decreased by 17 percent from Friday.

The decree, published in the Hungarian Gazette, was issued a few days after ITM Secretary of State Attila Steiner said we have a lot of gas in our storage facilities (86 percent of the storage stock level), and if we didn’t get any from now on, that would be enough for more than a hundred days.

The ministerial decree was issued in the face of recently extremely high gas prices, two weeks after the entry into force of the 15-year Russian gas contract, under which the country will receive 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas a year from Russian Gazprom in two directions,

whereas in Western Europe, due to relatively low storage levels and other reasons, there are concerns about Portfolio.

The latest report of the Hungarian Energy and Utilities Regulatory Authority revealed that with the strategic gas reserves decreasing from 15 million 374 thousand MWh to 12 million 723 thousand 644 MWh, we are returning to a situation essentially similar to that of the summer of 2019, and

this suggests that the Russian gas contract makes it unreasonable to raise stocks to higher levels in the last two years.

Justification is not included in the short 52/2021. (X. 14.).
