Index – Domestic – Reports written for internal prevention by József Dinnyés

On Wednesday morning, the Historical Archives of the State Security Services posted a document on its Facebook page about what József Dinnyés could have said to his state security officer in 1983. The document was published on the basis that all this happened 40 years ago, it said InfoStart.

This shows that Zsolt Dinnyés (correctly József Dinnyés) informed an officer of the state security about signing the petition. Pianist Zoltán Kocsis is also mentioned in it.

According to the report, between 1976 and 1979 Deák reported to the internal investigation under the pseudonym Deák.

It should be noted in his favor that his reports contained only generalities, he did not report anything about specific persons, with one exception when Budapest painters were included in his report, including the recently deceased Imre Bak. We have also attached his report − it does not really contain objectionable information, although it could have been useful for state security

– wrote the Historical Archives of the State Security Services.

The post also presents a document from 1977. Typed in it, it reads that “in 1970-72, a small group of painters existed, whose members were: Tibor Csiky, Ilona Keserü, Tamás Hencze, Tamás Szentjóby, János Fájó and Imre Bak. They were known as regular members of the technical university’s R club. In their joint creative activity, one held in 1973 New compositions c. exhibition, which was organized in the Art Gallery, caused a certain »break«, which also resulted in the loosening of the group. For the one whose work was bought, it meant contempt on the part of the others, as they paid for his “commitment”.

In the later years, a forced »Uncle Róbert« attitude towards other people can be observed on the part of Imre Bak, which manifests itself in practice by making it possible to organize various exhibitions for them. (As an employee of the Institute of Folk Education, the galleries belong to him.) This partly preserves his relations with them, and partly gives him the opportunity to propagate the trends they represent. According to our relationship, Imre Bak is not a dedicated artist, but he is emotionally connected to the mentioned circle.”

“Evaluation: The report is related to BM III/III-4. subdivision – for its confidential investigation. In terms of its content, it is information of operational value,” they wrote as a comment to the document.

József Dinnyés in 2021, He died at the age of 73. He started singing in 1963, and in 1966 he was a founding member and lyricist of the first Szeged band singing in Hungarian, the Angels. In 1967, he became nationally known with the song Karrier, written together with Miklós Veress, with which he won 2nd place at the first Hungarian polbeat festival. For a while, he was referred to as the Hungarian Bob Dylan or Bob Dinnyés because of his songs with guitar, harmonica, and public life themes, despite the fact that Bob Dylan was on completely different paths at that time, and Dinnyés was also increasingly interested in Hungarian poetry.
