Members of the MME Kisalföld Group spotted a rare bird of prey, a boar on the outskirts of Dunaszeg. This is the seventh time the race has been recorded in Hungary, the group said on its Facebook page.
The bird lives mainly in tropical and Mediterranean climates in Africa, Asia, and in Europe it spends only in the Iberian Peninsula and southern France, although it also extends northwards.
The predator feeds on small mammals, birds, reptiles and larger insects.

The observed specimen was seen sifting over a reed-bushy area and was observable until dark. He spent the night on a poplar tree, so the birders who arrived early the next day could still see him, as he was barely showing himself in the stormy wind the next day and was spotted on an adjacent pasture, but was no longer found afterwards.
The ornithologists also found two snowbirds, which is also a new bird species for Szigetköz. The snowbird is one of the most northerly species of bunting in the Eurasian region. The southern boundaries of its nesting area coincide approximately with the boundary line of the tundra taiga. It spends on waterfront, barren, rocky areas, lichen-covered lands, but even settlements.
