Index – Domestic – Klára Dobrev: I have nothing to do with Péter Magyar

Klára Dobrev said at the beginning of the conversation that Hungary’s situation is “getting worse and worse. As he said, a few years ago it would not have been realistic to say that Hungary could leave the EU, that “there will be 50 percent food inflation” or that the president of the republic and the minister of justice would fall into a pedophile scandal.

“The political mood is becoming increasingly tense,” the politician said, adding:

The foundations of Fidesz have started to tremble, the foundations are cracking.

“Today it is very difficult to be a government party voter […] so what could they be proud of?” – said Klára Dobrev afterwards. According to his claim, many people in the small villages were also insecure about the Fidesz voters, including the imported guest workers. According to him, the wages of Hungarian workers are suppressed with the exploited guest workers, but the Fidesz voters may also have been disappointed in the issue of family subsidies, and according to him, this is the reason why fewer people gathered for Viktor Orbán’s speech on March 15 than before.

When asked whether, in their opinion, a weak ruling party performance in the election could really lead to early elections, Klára Dobrev said that after the June 9 elections, the most important thing will be for people to feel: “Something has moved here.”

“In 2019, the opposition recaptured Budapest […]then such enthusiasm drove the opposition forward, which could have taken us further to a change of government,” he said, adding: before every election, the feeling that “the opposition should be replaced” appears, but according to him, these only created further disputes.

Never again will I allow this kind of fragmentation to weaken the political community

– said Klára Dobrev, referring already to the 2026 election.

This is how he sees Péter Magyar

Regarding Péter Magyar’s entry into the scene, Klára Dobrev said that she thinks that the social democratic, green part of the current opposition is a sure point, they have had a definite program for years, and everyone can know “where they come from and where they are going”, so they “do not sell sack cats”.

When asked where he would classify Péter Magyar, he said: he doesn’t have to classify him, because he did it himself.

He is a right-wing person who sees Viktor Orbán as a role model […] who rather agrees with Fidesz’s policy in European politics or the aggression in Ukraine

– said Klára Dobrev, adding: in her opinion, this is why she has nothing to do with Péter Magyar, because she has to organize the side of the opposition that does not want to reconcile with Viktor Orbán.

Celebrity?

In relation to Péter Magyar, he also explained that he and his party outlined concrete ideas in various political fields, and that, in his opinion, politics “should not only be about celebrity”. He also spoke about how, in his view, Europe is gradually federalizing, and will definitely be unified in the future.

When asked how many EP mandates they expect, Klára Dobrev only said “a lot”, and then added: in her opinion, it is not the number of mandates that is important, but the number of voters they will have, because this will matter from the point of view of the change of government. But he believes that they can expect a good result, and now it is the job of all opposition parties to work for electoral success.
