Index – Culture – Dorottya Udvaros did not receive a new contract from the National Theatre

As Index reported, the news spread in the theater world already at the beginning of April that Dorottya Udvaros may leave the National Theater after 22 years. Her colleagues said at the time that the actress would not make this decision of her own free will.

“I am no longer a member of the National Theatre. Attila Vidnyánszky really did not extend my contract,” Dorottya Udvaros reported Hungarian voiceto. He added that the general manager referred to the theater’s difficult financial situation.

Dorottya Udvaros sees that the government took HUF 380 million from the theater, which was not replaced in the budget. The actress sees it as questionable, if the financial situation is really so bad, then why it is necessary to contract new foreign directors for huge sums.

However, the National Theater did not confirm the news. “Artist Dorottya Udvaros is a member of the National Theater troupe and has an employment contract for an indefinite period, which has not been terminated or terminated to date,” the National Theater announced to Telex on Friday afternoon.

Polite Dorothy with a card in response he stated that

On Friday, March 22, at 11:00 a.m., I had a contract negotiation with the CEO, when he informed me that he did not wish to extend my employment contract. I will receive an individual contract for the pieces that are still on the show and I play in them in mid-May.

The Kossuth Prize-winning artist also touched on one of the most serious accidents in Hungarian theater life, which happened in November 2023. As Index reported, the two actors of the National Theatre, Júlia Szász and Ottó Lajos Horváth, Romeo and Juliet fell off the set during his performance and suffered permanent injuries. According to Dorottya Udvaros, the accident was “in the air”, as a tragedy had also happened with another actor before. He recalled that during the rehearsals of Romeo and Juliet, his colleagues “repeatedly indicated that the set was dangerous, but nothing happened”.

Dorottya Udvaros spoke to Index about the accident earlier, struggling with tears. The actress said that the whole company was very shaken. He considers Attila Vidnyánszky’s resignation obvious, as he believes that a serious accident has occurred, the likes of which may not have happened before.

An actor who plays in a heightened state can do something wrong, but the background has to work so that nothing can go wrong.

explained the actress.
