The fifth round of the league section of the reformed Champions League ended on Wednesday, after which Liverpool is still the only 100 percent team. Arne Slot’s team recently beat the defending champion – a strong reserve – Real Madrid 2-0 at home, and although Carlo Ancelotti says he is still not worried about advancing, his team is not in an easy situation. Real Madrid are currently in 24th place in the 36-man table, the last position still eligible for the playoffs.
The league leader Liverpool is closely followed by the defending Italian champion Internazionale, which is also unbeaten in the series, with four wins and one draw, even in the first round as a guest of Manchester City. Dortmund, Barcelona, Atalanta, Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal and Monaco are also in the top eight, so they can automatically advance.
According to the rules, the 9th and 24th ranked teams will have to play a playoff to reach the round of 16. Despite the fact that there are still three rounds left until the end of the league season, the picture of which teams can feel safe is starting to take shape. Certainly, 10-point Sporting, series newcomer Brest and Lille will be there at least in the playoffs – just like Bayern Munich or Atlético Madrid. Manchester City, which ended in a draw from a three-goal lead in the last round, has eight points after five rounds, while the previously mentioned Real Madrid has six points, which is only enough for 24th place at the moment. And if you look at Madrid’s schedule, they won’t have an easy task in the next round either, they should increase their number of points as a guest of Atalanta.
Paris Saint-Germain is in even bigger trouble, the French star team suffered another defeat in the BL on Tuesday, this time as a guest of Bayern Munich, so they are stuck on four points, which is only enough for 25th place, which would also mean automatic elimination from the series .
The sixth round of the Champions League will be held in two weeks. You can browse the full table below.
