Index – Belföld – Chaos and panic in Ferihegy, people cried and begged to be let out

As previously reported by Index, the Luton Airport runway damaged due to the extreme heat. In a statement, the airport indicated that it was forced to suspend flights because, following the extra-high temperature, a surface defect was identified on the runway and it melted.

This was the reason why panic broke out at the Budapest airport on Monday evening, because – according to our reader – they had already been on the plane for an hour when they were told to leave the vehicle.

After four hours of waiting, the delivery started again. They put us on a bus and locked us up for half an hour. Mothers and children shouted that there was no air, open it. The whole bus was panicking

– wrote one of the passengers in his letter. According to him, they were let out of the bus after shouting, but were stuck next to the runway, where they were not given any information about the flight. As he wrote, people sat on the floor because they were not even allowed back into the terminal. After a while, when they finally got back, they wanted to go home.

As Hungarian citizens, we have the right to go home. But not! They did not let me back into the Schengen zone, because only an airport worker can accompany me back. Which wasn’t

explained our reader in his letter. “We cried and begged the border guard that we wanted to go home after five hours of suffering, but he wouldn’t let us. At that time, instead of the 5:55 p.m. departure, they already said half past one in the morning,” he recalled.

They eventually found a woman working for another airline who eventually escorted them out. “It’s horrible that they didn’t let me go home as a Hungarian citizen. By the time we arrived, we received an email saying that the flight had finally been cancelled. Many people spent the night there. It was a terrible experience. No humanity,” our reader opined.
