As we wrote, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and President János Áder in April received an invitation to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Ukrainian independence. A series of events commemorating the anniversary will be held in Kiev on 23-24 August.
What makes the event interesting is that it will be the first round anniversary since the 2014 Russian occupation of the Crimea and eastern Ukraine. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and Charles Michel, President of the European Council, were also invited to the summit. The exact list of participants will not be revealed until the last minute, fearing that Moscow may put pressure on its international partners venturing to the summit.
