The fuel shortage on the Island seems to have reached a critical point, as the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation of Cuba (INDER) announced that all sporting events on the Island had been suspended due to the situation with hydrocarbons. in the country.
The suspension began on Saturday, February 10 and took immediate effect, even affecting the National Baseball Series and the National Football Championship.
“Based on the complex situation that the country is going through with the availability of fuel, INDER has decided to stop the national events in progress and postpone those related to football, cycling, softball, basketball and baseball, of all categories, which were scheduled for the next few days,” indicated the governing body of sport on the Island through an official statement.
Now, the national tournaments that were going to be held in the coming months, such as the National Baseball Series in March, will be rescheduled for when the context on the Island is “more favorable” to transport the athletes.
The situation generated controversy among sports followers, as it strongly affects athletes and coaches on the Island.
Several Internet users have used social networks to criticize what happened, as the lack of vision on the part of the Castro authorities has become evident, who could not anticipate an obvious problem such as fuel shortages.
Some of these users point out that the situation is more serious than it seems, since sporting events were one of the few things that kept the population “happy”, so the cancellation of these could generate discontent among citizens.
“That is historic. There is nothing in the country that makes the population happy, this and other things are proof that every step they take is into a vacuum. It’s a shame the people lack the courage to put things in their place,” said one of the Internet users.
“How can it be? If they are friends of the country with the largest fuel reserves in the world,” another user questioned.
