Independiente beat Estudiantes and achieved its first victory with Vaccari :: Olé

The debut of the new signings, after an endless wait, will also be a new beginning for Julio Vaccari at Independiente. The coach weathered the storm in his first four games (two draws and two losses). He even had to talk and answer about deadlines, which meant a verbal exchange with a journalist. But his Rojo, always taking short steps forward, was on the rise with what he had on and many casualties. Only last night Independiente was able to count on three new signings (Lomónaco, Loyola and Vera) after lifting the restriction. And he found redemption.

The victory against Estudiante in La Plata, beyond the statistical aspect, will be vital to boost the confidence of Vaccari’s team. With the new faces, they will begin to feel full, already awaiting what will be the Avellaneda derby, but not before receiving Rosario Central.

Lomónaco opened the scoring for Independiente

To beat Estudiantes, Independiente repeated the formula that had allowed it to draw with San Lorenzo, playing more than 70 minutes with 10 players. It pulled back its lines, redoubled its efforts and waited for its chances to hit Eduardo Domínguez’s team. Starting with Ávalos, the most advanced player and symbol of sacrifice, the Rojo was much more pragmatic. It understood its deficiencies and its strong points. It did not shine, of course, but it began to show itself as a team, with all that implies that word used as a compliment.

In a very even development, Independiente took the lead with two dead balls, something unforgivable for the Pincha DNA. They were two identical actions. Corner kicks executed perfectly by González and two headers for goal. In the first half it was Lomónaco’s and in the second it was Ávalos’. 100% effectiveness to silence Uno.

Avalos increased the difference against Estudiantes

The arrival of Vera and Lomónaco gave the Rojo defence more firmness. The former Unión player was solid in marking and when he could he doubled up. And Lomónaco gave the team a lot of aerial play, just against a rival that throws almost all its play on the wings to end up crossing for Carrillo. Indepediente suffered little. Rey practically did not have those saves that used to make him stand out every weekend. Another advance.

From midfield forward, Loyola was a right-wing midfielder who quickly got along with Saltita González. He recovered and always teamed up with the club’s kid to create a playmaking duo.

Without so many spaces to cover in retreat, some of Independiente’s shortcomings were also concealed. Marcone did not have to make a great physical display by being closer to the centre-backs and contained by two inside players. And up front, Ávalos was not so far behind the rest of his teammates, which made him more productive with his back to give them air.

Estudiantes was a shadow of the team that had scored thrashings against Gimnasia and Newell’s. It was unable to win individual duels on the wings and had many shortcomings in the exit from the back, mainly from the feet of Lollo, who also lost the first goal.

Independiente won in the debut of its reinforcements. The hope of its fans is that it was the starting point.
