Independent children’s and young people’s theatre: the state awards six grants for young talent

They bring a breath of fresh air to the landscape of independent children’s and youth theater and implement artistic or scientific projects: In 2023, six young theater talents will be funded by the state government with 5,000 euros each. For four months, the scholarship holders will gain valuable experience at children’s and youth theaters and will be able to contribute their expertise there. The scholarships are aimed at young artists and theater scientists – for example in the fields of acting, stage design and equipment, dramaturgy, theater studies, theater pedagogy and cultural management.

Ina Brandes, Minister for Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia: “Because of the pandemic, children and young people have had to go without art and culture for far too long. That’s why we make a special effort to get young people excited about culture: both as audiences and as actors. Because the promotion of art and culture for children and young people is particularly important to me, we support talent and theater with the scholarship – and both sides benefit from it. Our young theater makers and academics can bring in their creative ideas and thus encourage young audiences to go to the theatre.”

The six scholarship holders and their cooperation partners:

  • Leonie Adam / 4.D cross-divisional affairs, Dortmund
  • Elisa Marcelle Berrod / machine house Essen
  • Kaja Hansen / KOM’MA Theater, Duisburg
  • Antje Mies / mini-art, Bedburg-Hau
  • Charlotte Petersen / Fatty Fish Performance/Theatre, Munster
  • Analena Razborsek / Alfredo Zinola Productions, Köln
