INDAP Distributes 27,000 Bags of Animal Feed to Farmers Affected by Flooding in Maule Region

What is the balance?

To date, INDAP Maule has distributed a total of 27,000 bags of alfalfa cubes -25 kilos each- to 1,100 users of the institution who were affected by the storm and the flooding of the rivers at the end of June.

Where have the deliveries been made?

In Longaví, three animal feed delivery operations were carried out. In Maule, as explained by the regional director(s) of INDAP, Luis González, the delivery of animal feed began at the beginning of July in the commune of San Clemente and has been deployed through various operations in different communes of the region such as Licantén, Hualañé, Curepto, Constitución, Chanco, Pelluhue, Cauquenes, Rauco, Sagrada Familia, Romeral, Teno, Molina, Maule, Talca, Pencahue, Río Of course, San Rafael and Longavi.

What comes next?

Next week the animal feed delivery operations will be carried out in the INDAP area agencies of San Javier, Linares and Parral, where more than a thousand producers of sheep, horses, cattle and goats are concentrated. With these actions, the institution will culminate in the region this first contribution of animal feed, which will benefit about 46,700 head of cattle.

What did they explain from INDAP?

The national deputy director of INDAP, César Rodríguez, indicated on the occasion that the measure is part of the immediate support actions for the affected producers, to contribute to the supplementation of the feeding of their livestock and thus avoid loss of animals and keep them in the best possible conditions.

What were the words of the deputy director?

“What we are delivering today is quality, not due to an emergency, we must generate a decrease in the quality of what is delivered. We are delivering alfalfa cubes that generate a very good protein level for the animals, allow better recovery in this time of scarcity and are better accepted by the animals and there is less loss. With a bale, around 25 to 30% is lost, with alfalfa cubes, practically nothing is lost. And that also reflects the effort that the government is making to deliver quality at this time of emergency for a better recovery of the cattle mass ”, he claimed.

What did the Minister of Agriculture say?

Esteban Valenzuela He explained that, within the immediate aid, work is being done on the delivery of animal feed and also on the cleaning and rehabilitation of canals to be able to start the new irrigation season in the best possible conditions.

What will happen to the damage to the irrigation canal system?

In this sense, he highlighted the work of the Ministry of Agriculture with the Directorate of Hydraulic Works of the Ministry of Public Works “We have created a water safety committee and we hope that by the beginning of September we will be able to channel the rivers again, recover the intakes, but we are already cleaning the canals with the main irrigator associations throughout the affected center-south, but mainly in the Maule region, which was the most affected.”
