The seriously ill Melissa Kremer, who became known through her Instagram page MijnKwaadbloed, has died at the age of 25. The young woman was suffering from leukemia and wrote about it on social media. Her page was followed by hundreds of thousands of people.
“She’s a star in the sky”, writes the family on her page. “Our sweet, brave Melissa will be on our minds forever. She’s leaving something indescribably great, countless points of light for you and me.”
Kremer was told at the beginning of last year that she had leukemia for the second time and this time was terminally ill. Against all odds, she managed to make it to Christmas, but after that things got worse.
‘Bright spots’
On her Instagram page, she candidly shared how she was doing. She called the disease ‘the monster’ and wanted to clarify the theme of cancer. “People tend to think of small children or old people when they think of cancer,” Kremer said in January at Jinek. “But there is still a whole group among them that can just get it.”
Kremer said she wanted to share her story to help and inspire people. “But also to show that no matter how scary, difficult and tough life is, there are also plenty of moments of happiness. Little bright spots that I want to give people.”
Book
Kremer shared her stories and experiences in her book My bad blood, which she worked on right up to the last minute. The first version was printed at the beginning of this month and 10,000 copies were sold within half a day.
In January, dozens of police officers on Dam Square in Amsterdam paid tribute to Kremer:
