Incurable disease, this man promises to broadcast his death

DIJON, KOMPAS.com – A man on France promised to broadcast his death on social media, after suffering disease which cannot heal.

A man named Alain Cocq it began rejecting food, drink, and medicine after President Emmanuel Macron turned down his request euthanasia.

Cocq, suffering from a condition where the walls of his blood vessels stick together, said that his life is less than a week away.

Therefore, he will broadcast his own death on Saturday morning local time, as reported by the news agency AFP (5/9/2020).

Writing on Facebook at midnight, Cocq said that “the road to liberation has begun and he is delighted”.

He also admitted that he had finished his “last meal”. “I know the days ahead will be difficult. But I am calm because I decided,” he said.

Cocq revealed, he had already written a letter to Macron asking him to undergo euthanasia, so that he would die in peace.

But Macron later responded with a refusal, explaining that the request could not be carried out under French law.

The 57-year-old man became a concern in a situation where the patient was seriously ill, but was not allowed to die as they wanted in “Wine Country”.

In a response letter uploaded to Cocq’s Facebook, Macron explained that because he obeyed the law, he could not pass his request.

“Your request is active help to die which is not in accordance with the law here. So, I can’t ask anyone to fulfill it,” he explained.

Cocq said he decided to broadcast Dead on social media to show the French “pain” over the rejection.

Because of this, he will present the moments before he died, during which he estimates “it will take four to five days.”

A support group stated that starting Friday evening (4/9/2020), he would no longer eat, drink or take medication except for pain relief.

Cocq said he hopes that by himself suffering, politicians in the future will be moved to change the applicable law.

Macron himself said that “very emotionally, he respected his actions”, to which he added a handwritten “With great respect and my support.”

The Elysee Palace explained that Macron would like to commend Cocq’s commitment to his decision to fight for his rights.

The right-to-die (right to die) case is an issue that is quite discussed in France, where one other example is Vincent Lambert.

He was in a negative state after an accident in 2008, and died in July 2019 after doctors removed his life support equipment following lengthy legal proceedings.

The case reportedly divides not only the “Wine Country”, but also his family, in this case his parents and wife.

Lambert’s parents are said to have made every effort to keep their child alive. But his wife and nephew requested that he die in peace.

Then in January 2019, a French court ordered doctors to revoke the life support system, whose verdict is a formality.

The reason was that the prosecutor stated “he respects his legal obligations very much.”
