An incumbent judge of a local court was caught prostitution in broad daylight on weekdays in Gangnam, Seoul. It was confirmed on the 29th that the Suseo Police Station in Seoul sent judge A (42) to the prosecution on charges of prostitution (violation of the Prostitution Punishment Act). As a result of the police investigation, Judge A is accused of prostitution at a hotel in Gangnam-gu, Seoul on the 22nd of last month at around 4:00 pm for B, a woman in her 30s, for 150,000 won. Judge A is said to have met Mr. B through a condition meeting application. The police caught Mr. B in a hotel room at around 6:00 pm on the same day, and later identified Judge A and charged him. It is said that when the police arrested Mr. B, Judge A had already left the hotel. It is known that Judge A gave a statement to the police to the effect that she was on a business trip to Seoul related to her work at the time. The status of judges is guaranteed under the Constitution, so they cannot be removed from office unless they are impeached or sentenced to imprisonment or heavier punishment. One year of honesty is the highest level of punishment. There have been cases of prostitution by an incumbent judge before. In August 2016, a chief judge in his 40s belonging to the Office of Court Administration was caught prostitution in an officetel in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu. In this case, the judge was sentenced to 3 months of disciplinary action. Reporter Kim Hae-jeong [email protected]
