Although it has been known for a few years that the smartphones of the Cupertino company support a certain exposure to water, it is obvious that no one has dared to abuse this freedom for fear for their phone. The brand itself recommends not to play with fire and to stick to the instructions given on its site. Nevertheless, a few weeks ago, an iPhone achieved the feat of spending an entire week at the bottom of a lake before being found in perfect working order.
After a week at the bottom of the lake, this iPhone is still in working order
The story takes place in Brazil, in mid-February, when a young student navigates in a kayak on the waters of Lake Paranoá, near the capital. While paddling, the latter sees a woman drowning. Reacting to the urgency of the situation, the student rushes out of his canoe and jumps into the water to help the woman in great difficulty. But while the young man saves the young woman, his iPhone 11 falls out of his pocket and sinks to the bottom of the famous lake. Convinced that his iPhone was lost and now out of order, the student did not try to recover it and made up his mind, resigned to saying goodbye to this lost iPhone…
The situation turns around: a week later, a diving instructor finds, by the most complete chance, the iPhone 11 in Lake Paranoá. Curious, the latter tries to relight the device and ends up succeeding. After posting an announcement on social media, the dive instructor managed to track down the student who lost his phone a week earlier and later returned it to him. It is in this way that the young Brazilian was able to recover his fully functional iPhone when the latter had just spent a week under water.
An iPhone miraculously saved from the waters
Although this is not the first time that a smartphone from the giant Apple has shown incredible water resistance, beyond the estimates given, the firm nevertheless recommends not to tempt fate. This is only a remarkable exception, and if you value your precious smartphone, it is better to stick to the instructions provided on the Apple site. As a reminder, according to the manufacturer, the iPhone 11 is able to withstand a few splashes, water and dust, and has the IP68 protection index only for a maximum depth of 2 meters for a maximum duration of 30 minutes.
