Ittrich rushes over and immediately recognizes the situation: The former France international fainted and swallowed his tongue, threatens to suffocate. The Mainz players also recognized the danger their teammate was in. They immediately thanked Ittrich for his help – one in particular: “Nadiem Amiri immediately hugged me because he realized it was an explosive situation,” reported the referee.

Referee Ittrich, a police officer by profession, had another thing that was important: “This shouldn’t rest on the police officer, but on each of us. In everyday life, situations can always happen in which someone needs help,” he made clear after the game.
