It’s a beautiful story that Marjorie and Hengli will remember for a long time. On Sunday June 25, 2023, Marjorie lost her engagement ring on the beach in Dunkirk (North). For more than an hour, she and her fiancé search for her. The ring cannot be found. Finally, thanks to an outpouring of solidarity out of the ordinary, they will end up finding the jewel.
A fight
On Sunday, June 25, Marjorie and Hengli spend the weekend at a friend’s house. The engaged couple are going for a walk on the beach. An argument breaks out. The young woman sends her ring and her bracelet waltzing. Hengli finds the bracelet but the ring has disappeared.
Panicked, they search for her for more than an hour. A retired couple comes to their aid. Failing success, they call Cynthia, Marjorie’s mother. This one is in Paris. “My daughter was crying on the phone. I decided to launch a call on social networks, ”she explains.
A message on Facebook
On the Facebook group “Dunkerque 59”, she sends a message to ask for help. She specifies what the ring looks like, which is gold with an emerald. She specifies that her daughter must soon get married and offers a reward of 200 euros to the person who will find the jewel.

The Facebook post is moving and many people are contacting Cynthia to offer their help. A first couple arrives with a metal detector. “They had driven 30 minutes to come,” recalls Marjorie. They unfortunately fail to find the ring. Hengli and Marjorie offer them a drink.
Buried in the sand
After the couple, it’s the turn of a man to try his luck. Its metal detector is much more powerful. And miracle: he manages to find Marjorie’s engagement ring. The whole beach applauds the feat. The jewel was buried under 10 centimeters of sand.
The “ring savior” did not wish to recover the reward promised by Cynthia. “He told us that he loved treasure hunts and that it felt good to give happiness,” says Hengli.

A life lesson
From this whole story, Hengli and Marjorie have learned lessons. “We decided not to argue as hard over trifles,” say the lovers. “For me, Sunday was an incredible day. It’s a miracle what happened,” adds Hengli.
What the couple made a point of underlining is “the incredible momentum of solidarity” and “the kindness of the people of the North”. A beautiful story that ends for the best.
