The pests show up in their thousands, devour fields and even invade supermarkets in search of food. According to local media, three hospital patients have also been bitten by the mice. Efforts to exterminate the mice and contain the plague have fizzled out for the time being, leaving Gilgandra’s local farmers and people at a loss.
