The Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown proved to be a challenging four days for the United States Team despite their No.1 seed and top-ranked players Nelly Korda and Lilia Vu. The team found themselves in a dogfight to advance to the semi-finals on the final day of Four-Ball competition, needing a win or tie against Sweden. The People’s Republic of China also had a chance to advance if they won both their matches and the U.S. lost both. Although the outcome seemed improbable, it came close to happening as China won one match, and England led 2 up through 12 holes. However, young Alice Hewson hit the wedge of the week to win the match and give England their first full point for the week, allowing the U.S. to advance. On the other hand, Sweden remained undefeated and will take on Australia in the semis, while the U.S. will play Thailand. The Hanwha LIFEPLUS International Crown has certainly lived up to its reputation as a challenging competition.
