Gift from the Ocean: British Columbia’s Tofino resident Marci Callewat John regained her purse eight months after she lost it at sea. Marcy found the purse while walking her dogs on the beach.
Marcy first shared her experience through a Tik Tok video that has garnered nearly a million views. Later on February 15, the story related to the event was posted on Instagram.
In June 2023, Marcy was on a boat off the west coast of Tofino when her purse accidentally fell into the ocean. A diver was hired immediately after the incident to make efforts to locate it, but was unable to find it.

Winter Wind’s plan was to find the purse by a different route. Eight months after the incident, the purse was returned to Marcy as a surprise.
Sharing her experience on Instagram, Marcy wrote, “Yesterday, while walking the dogs, I found my wallet that I lost from the boat 8 months ago! Tried to get a diver and snorkel to look for it, but no luck. I was hoping to see it somewhere nearby and that the winter winds would bring it to shore. In a few days it finally appeared.”
“My video went viral on Tik Tok, got a combined 7 million+ views and got contacted by media and agencies around the world. It’s a bit funny how much attention it’s getting,” Marcy added.
After the post appeared on Instagram, it too received many likes.
