Jakarta, CNNIndonesia —
Instant messaging application WhatsApp launched a new feature that allows users to create status in the form of a voice message with a duration of up to 30 seconds.
WhatsApp head Will Cathhart announced this latest feature on his Twitter account @wcathcart.
“You can now share voice messages in statuses, use the audience selector for privacy, and quickly respond to updates from others with reactions. We’ve also added a profile ring so it’s easier to find new statuses, and improved link previews,” he said in a tweet on Tuesday (7/2).

Reported from WhatsAppStatus is a popular way to share short updates with friends and contacts on the app.
Statuses are usually made in the form of photos, videos, GIFs, text, etc. and will disappear automatically within 24 hours of uploading.
Just like chats and phone calls, WhatsApp statuses are protected by end-to-end encryption so users can share securely.
The presence of the voice message feature for Status is a new way to share on WhatsApp.
This feature is a convenient option for those who prefer not to type or use visuals.
Quoted from Tech Crunch, user will get option to record voice message by tapping microphone icon on status screen. WhatsApp itself has been testing its voice status feature with Android and iOS beta testers in the last month.
Status with voice messages comes months after WhatsApp saw significant traction in voice messages on its platform.
This messaging application owned by Meta in March said that its users send an average of 7 billion voice messages every day.
In addition to voice statuses, WhatsApp status updates also include a “private audience selector” which allows users to easily select a privacy option per status to choose who can view their status updates.
A new audience selector button appears on the status screen. The most recent audience selection will be saved and used as the default for future status updates.
Previously, users had to manually open the privacy settings on WhatsApp to choose who could see their status.
