As reported by the portal Business Insider, the stoppage of construction of new units at the Ostrołęka Power Plant does not have to be the end when it comes to the problems of Polish power plants. It is possible that investments worth PLN 29 billion from recent years will be wasted, which will lead to serious problems for energy companies. Heat producers are starting to face similar problems.
“It is proposed to enable changes in heat tariffs, due to a significant change in the price of CO2 emission allowances, quickly, without the need to examine and analyze the entire tariff for heat. This will enable the completion of the administrative procedure without undue delay and will allow its implementation – which will will make it possible to cover the rapidly growing costs of emissions “- it was written in the draft regulation of the Ministry of Climate, which is to be issued by April 15th.
According to the content of the draft regulation, in practice this will mean raises. Only in 2021, electricity bills increased by nearly 10%, and the bills will soon be the same heating.

Possible bankruptcies of many companies
In its justification, the ministry indicated that the costs of the heat tariffs planned by the companies did not include the full cost of purchasing emission allowances. For reasons beyond the control of the enterprises, the justified costs of the economic activity of the heat generating enterprises were not covered, PAP wrote.
“Large, unplanned costs of purchasing emission allowances should be taken into account by adjusting the company’s revenues, because the costs of purchasing CO2 emission allowances are undoubtedly justified costs. Failure to do so may result in the companies being bankrupted, and as a result the energy security of heat consumers may be endangered and inhabitants in households “- it was written in the explanatory memorandum to the draft.
