From 01.01.2024, the required age for acquiring the right to a pension under Article 68, Paragraphs 1 and 2 of the Social Security Act will increase by 2 months for women and by 1 month for men, and the required insurance experience will increase by 2 months and for both sexes.
This is recorded in the 2023-2024 Plan for the implementation of the National Strategy for the Active Life of the Elderly in Bulgaria (2019-2030).
The age for acquiring the right to a pension for insurance service and age for all other categories of persons (working in the conditions of the first and second category of work, teachers working in special departments, etc.) will increase by two months, with the exception of the age required under Art. 69b, par. 1 and 2 of the CSR, which for women will increase by four months.
Since the beginning of this year, the required age for acquiring the right to a pension under the general rules has increased by 2 months for women and by 1 month for men, and the required insurance experience – by 2 months for both sexes.
Part of the pensioners remain without an increase from July 1
The age for acquiring the right to a pension for insurance service and age for all other categories of persons (working in the conditions of the first and second category of work, teachers working in special departments, etc.) increased by two months, with the exception of the required age under Art. 69b, para. 1 and 2 of CSR, which for women increased by four months. The age for acquiring the right to a pension with 15 years of actual insurance service has increased by 2 months from the beginning of 2023.

In addition to these measures, the plan also includes measures to increase pensioners’ income. They foresee that the pensions granted until December 31, 2023, will increase according to the Swiss rule from July 1 next year by 9.6 percent.
Thus, the minimum amount of the pension for insurance service and age according to Art. 68, para. 1 of CSR will increase to BGN 573.25 compared to BGN 523.04 now. The social pension for old age is also expected to increase by 9.6 percent and become BGN 303.20, compared to BGN 276.64 now.
