Mutual agreement on supply and demand stability with 4 organizations including the paper industry… Production of corrugated paper instead of newsprint
–
With the spread of Corona 19, the demand for parcels has soared, and the lack of corrugated cardboard is intensifying, and related industries have joined hands to stabilize supply and demand.
According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 30th, the Korea Paper Federation, the Korea Paper Industry Cooperative, the Korea Corrugated Paper Packaging Industry Cooperative, and the Korea Box Industry Cooperative signed a’Mutual Cooperation Agreement for Stabilizing the Supply and Demand of Corrugated Paper.’
These four organizations, representing corrugated cardboard demand and supply companies, agreed to make joint efforts, such as increasing the production of corrugated paper and restraining exports.
The growing concern about the supply and demand of corrugated boards is due to a temporary decrease in inventory as the demand for corrugated cardboard boxes for the Chuseok holiday surged.
In addition, a fire broke out in a corrugated paper maker that produces 33,000 tons per month in October, raising uncertainty in supply and demand.
Due to the fire, domestic shipments temporarily declined in November, and it is believed that the level of October has recovered again in December.
In order to stabilize the supply and demand of corrugated cardboard, the paper industry is producing corrugated paper by converting some of its newsprint production facilities, and plans to increase supply by about 20,000 tons per month by further converting it.
In addition, until the problem of supply and demand for corrugated cardboard is resolved, it has decided to refrain from exporting the original paper of corrugated board in addition to the amount already signed.
The corrugated cardboard industry is planning to import about 60,000 tons by March next year by expanding the import of raw paper from Japan and Southeast Asia.
An official from the Ministry of Industry said, “Considering the economic downturn, the impact of the increase in delivery volume on the entire supply and demand of corrugated cardboard will be limited.” And, if necessary, we plan to check the actual condition.”
