Bochum. The need for tutoring in Lower Saxony is increasing. And he shows fundamental problems: “We now have young people with us who have to prepare for class work on topics that were never taught in face-to-face classes,” it is said by tutoring schools.
The need of students for tutoring in Lower Saxony has increased significantly since autumn. Many tutoring institutes are currently making up for the learning gaps that have arisen due to the lack of instruction in schools. In the study group, for example, which offers tuition nationwide, demand in October was around 19 percent higher than a year ago.
In the spring, the families were very unsure of how things would go on at school and in their everyday work, said Thomas Momotow, spokesman for the study group. However, the demand for vacation courses rose again during the summer holidays, and then again increased sharply in autumn.
Some of the pupils come with different learning needs than they did before the Corona crisis. “Before, it was mostly about practicing and applying what you had learned in tutoring.” Now the need for basic introductions is much greater. “We now have young people with us who have to prepare for class work on topics that were never taught in face-to-face classes,” said the study group spokesman.
It is known from surveys that many parents do not trust the schools to be able to close the gaps caused by school closings and homeschooling in the foreseeable future.
Students who received support at home would have fewer problems. However, the increase in learning should not depend on the time and knowledge of the parents. A particularly strong growth is seen in tutoring for children from families who do not have that much money and who are funded through the education and participation package.
