FAJAR.CO.ID, CIANJUR – The Health Service of Cianjur District, West Java, reported that the number of victims of mass poisoning in Panyusuhan Village, Sukaluyu District, increased to 41 people on Monday night (30/9). It is currently suspected that the cause of the poisoning came from boxes of rice that were distributed during a tahilan event.
Head of the Disease Prevention and Control Department of the Cianjur Health Office, Dr. Frida Laila Yahya explained that the number of victims who received medical treatment at Sukaluyu Community Health Center was increasing, with four people being sent to Sayang Cianjur Regional Hospital because their condition was very serious. In addition, 10 children were also included in the list of victims.
“We estimate that the number of victims could continue to increase, as around 100 boxes of rice were distributed,” said Frida, quoted by ANTARA.
The Sukaluyu Community Health Center has sent health workers to the houses of residents suspected of being poisoned after eating boxed rice from the tahlilan incident. The team has also taken food samples for testing in the laboratory to determine the cause of the poisoning.
The Importance of Vigilance
The head of the Sukaluyu Community Health Center, Nurul Hadie, said that only a few residents came with complaints of nausea, dizziness and vomiting, but this number continued to increase throughout the day.
“In the evening, the victims who were being treated at the community health center consisted of 27 adults and 10 children, while four others were sent to the hospital because their conditions were more serious,” said Nurul.
