The latest report on respiratory infections made public by the Dolj Public Health Directorate shows that influenza viruses have started to circulate, but without causing problems for now. 8 cases of flu were confirmed in the last week monitored by specialists. According to the updated data sent by the representatives of the Victor Babeş Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases at the request of the GdS, from December 25 until now, 17 patients with influenza have been admitted to the medical unit.

Children, victims of pneumonia

The figures provided by the Hospital for Infectious Diseases in Craiova show that, since Christmas, the overwhelming majority of viral cases are pneumonia. No less than 53 patients with pneumonia were hospitalized between Christmas and New Year at Victor Babeş. Of these, 40 are children between the ages of 0 and 14. Another 6 children and 2 adults with pneumonia were hospitalized on January 1 and 2.

Regarding the cases of influenza, in the week of December 25-31, 10 patients with type A influenza were hospitalized. On January 1 and 2, another 7 patients with influenza arrived at the hospital.

Almost 15% of cases of viruses, hospitalized

The first case of flu this cold season was announced in the report dated December 8. Two other cases confirmed by rapid tests were confirmed on December 22. However, most were detected in the last week of the year, according to DSP data.

According to the report published on December 28, in Dolj there were registered 839 cases of IACRS, 248 cases of acute pneumopathy and 8 cases of influenza detected by rapid test with influenza virus type A.
The total number of cases of respiratory viruses and flu registered until the end of the year was lower than that of the previous week. More precisely, 1095 cases against 1576.

The population incidence rate of IACRS cases was 123.57 o/oooo, flu 1.17 o/oooo. The incidence of pneumopathies was 36.52 o/oooo. The share of hospitalizations in the total number of cases was 14.88%.

The figures show an increase in flu cases, but the number remains low

Except for the 8 cases of flu detected at the end of December, DSP reports showed only 2 cases of flu recorded in the previous report and one case announced on December 8. All cases are infections with influenza virus type A. Although the number has increased, the cases in Dolj are few compared to the flu activity in the Capital and other counties.

Nationally, the latest report reveals 2,766 cases of clinical influenza. Comparatively, 2,685 cases were registered in the same week of the previous season.
Cases of clinical influenza were reported by 34 counties, the most being in the municipality of Bucharest (1,286) and in the counties of Prahova (307), Maramureș (178), Timiș (194), Galați (159) and Constanța (121).

How many residents of Dolje have been vaccinated against the flu

By the end of 2023, the number of people vaccinated against influenza in Dolj County is 51,951. Until December 24, 2023, at the national level, a number of 1,035,261 people vaccinated against influenza were registered in the National Electronic Register of Vaccinations (RENV), of which 1,012,186 from the groups that benefit from settlement in a compensated regime.

The flu has caused five deaths nationwide since the start of the season, according to data from the National Institute of Public Health. Around one in five Europeans gets infected with the flu virus every year. The greatest risk of developing severe forms of influenza is in the elderly, pregnant women and patients with chronic diseases.
