Since 2001, the Diessen pottery market has been taking place in the lakeside facilities for four days from Ascension Day. With up to 60,000 visitors, it has developed into the most important and highest-turnover industry meeting point in southern Germany, if not Germany. The national fame also costs the market town a lot of money.

Dießen – The average deficit of the last five pottery markets amounts to 72,900 euros per year. The market recorded a record loss of 135,574 euros in 2023. The reasons include, among other things, the general price increases as well as for bus transfers or the rent of the toilet houses as well as the extensive security concept, as is required for events of this size. While consumer prices have risen by over twenty percent since 2017, according to the index, stand fees for exhibitors have not changed since 2017. For example, a 3-meter stand cost 441 euros for four days last year, while at the Landsberg pottery market you had to shell out 472 euros for just two days.

Fees for the pottery market will be increased: around nine percent more

In order to at least somewhat reduce the deficit for Dießen, the market town council decided at its most recent meeting to increase the stand fees by an average of nine percent. The three-meter stand will cost 480 euros from next year. For a six-meter stand you have to pay 960 euros instead of 882 euros. The rental fee for a community market stall, including set-up and dismantling, will now be 50 euros instead of the previous 20 euros. Clubs and commercial catering establishments must continue to pay a fee of 15 percent of their net sales. According to the resolution, this must be reported to the municipal administration within 14 days of the end of the pottery market.

With a vote of 23:1, the local council approved the increases and thus the change or addition to the statutes. The dissenting vote came from Johann Rieß (FW). The 2025 Pottery Market will take place from May 29th to June 1st. As has been proven and indispensable for years, the market manager is Wolfgang Lösche. For the first time, Edith Petry is taking over the organization in the municipality’s main office from Angelika Maxerath, who has been taking care of the detailed work in the background since 2008.
