vidaflex, the trade union initiative for one-person companies (EPU), welcomes the announcement by the Minister of Health Johannes Rauch that the fees for care allowance reports will be increased from 70 to 90 euros from 1 October. In doing so, the Minister of Health complies with a request from the vida and vidaflex union that nursing specialists should be entitled to the same fee as doctors for nursing care benefit reports. “The principle of ‘equal pay for equal work’ now applies here too. Nursing professionals are key workers who are finally getting the recognition they deserve,” said vidaflex General Secretary Michael Fedorcio.
According to the answer to a parliamentary question by Federal Minister Rauch, 3,005 people are currently certified for nursing allowance classification by the Austrian Academy for Medical and Nursing Assessment (ÖBAK). Of these, 908 are doctors and 2,079 are nurses. In 2023 alone, they made a total of 258,120 care benefit assessments, explains Fedorcio.
“Nursing professionals, increasingly self-employed, already carry out the majority of care benefit assessments in Austria. Due to demographic change and the shortage of doctors, the importance of nursing staff in this area will continue to increase. That is why the announcement of the Minister of Health is a right step in the future,” concluded Fedorcio.
