– Bloomberg News on the 6th, citing an anonymous source, reported that the discussions between Apple and Hyundai’s electric car production had recently stopped.
Bloomberg said, “Hyundai Kia Motors indirectly admitted the contents of the agreement with Apple, and this distorted the agreement with Apple.”
Apple has kept the development of electric vehicles a secret for years and is building a system to effectively dominate its business partners. Bloomberg said it is unclear when Apple and Hyundai will resume talks.
Meanwhile, prior to Bloomberg’s report, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) said on the 5th that Kia is contacting potential partners regarding plans to assemble an Apple car at its Georgia plant in the US According to WSJ, Kia’s parent company, Hyundai Motors, is discussing ways to start producing Apple-branded cars from 2024 by investing 3 billion dollars (about 3.4 trillion won) in negotiations with Apple.
If an agreement is reached, up to 100,000 units can be assembled at Kia’s Georgia plant from the first year of production.
However, it is known that Apple is seeking ways to cooperate with various partners other than Hyundai Motor Company. The day before, Japanese economic expert Nihon Keizai reported that Apple is in discussions with six companies including Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi, Mazda and Subaru for the production of Apple cars.”
