“Inconspicuous players”: Zilina in bankruptcy

The coronavirus crisis has now brought the first top football club in Slovakia to bankruptcy. The traditional club MSK Zilina had to file for bankruptcy – and blamed “unintelligent players” for this, the club management announced on the club’s website.

They would have refused to temporarily waive part of their salary after the game ceased. Therefore, there was nothing left but to dismiss the 17 most expensive professionals immediately.

The association simply could not afford their salaries under the crisis conditions, it said in the message. In its statement, the club management did not rule out that the club is planning a fresh start after the temporary bankruptcy.
