Inconspicuous basalt cross: How tragedy on the Lower Moselle wrote legal history – Koblenz & Region

An inconspicuous basalt cross on the L 82 between Lehmen and Münstermaifeld recalls a tragedy that apparently occurred on August 15, 1814 after a dispute that had escalated completely. The victim was the 22-year-old bachelor Joseph Brachtendorf from Kergeshof above Löf, the perpetrator was a friend. Both of them recently lived in Moselsürsch, today’s district of Lehmen. Lukas Brachtendorf, a direct descendant of a brother of the unfortunate one, contacted us and made important additions.
