Income, health, housing: what social assistance in the event of financial difficulties?

No one is safe from finding themselves in a delicate financial situation. When income becomes insufficient, this opens the right to different social assistance. They can be varied and intended to finance essential needs such as housing, health, or even education.

In times of crisis, it is entirely possible to find yourself in a difficult financial situation, for a very variable period of time. In France, there is a wide range of aid, allowances or financing schemes that allow you to manage this situation or get out of it. On the one hand, we can cite aid intended for people with no or little income. The best known is undoubtedly the active solidarity income (RSA), which is however granted under various conditions, such as age, family situation or household composition. For people who are working or who are partially or technically unemployed, it is possible to supplement their income with the activity bonus. Again, the amount will depend on the individual situation. Concerning retirees, the most modest can claim the solidarity allowance for the elderly (Aspa).

What help for housing?

Housing often represents the heaviest unavoidable expense for low-income households. They can therefore generally benefit from the famous APL. But these are not the only aids in this area. You can also apply for the Housing Solidarity Fund (FSL). It can take the form of a loan or a grant intended to pay for installation (security deposit, first rent, moving, etc.) or maintenance in the accommodation (debts, bills, etc.). It is granted subject to income conditions without taking into account housing assistance. We can also cite the energy check, which does not have to be requested. It is sent automatically to beneficiaries.

Aid for health

When financial difficulties arise from health problems, Health Insurance provides for health and social action. This is a system bringing together several types of aid, ranging from complementary health insurance to professional reintegration, including compensation for lost wages and home support. For people in difficulty, for other reasons, it is possible to request complementary health coverage C2S (Supplementary Solidarity Health), which will compensate for the absence of mutual insurance.

Other possible help

Finally, there is a whole range of aid linked to situations of precariousness or financial difficulties. We can cite microcredit, which makes it possible to finance projects when banks refuse to grant a loan. Many French people benefited this year from the back-to-school allowance (ARS). The Pass’Sport helps finance the registration of people aged 6 to 30 for sporting activities. Furthermore, beyond state systems, there is very often financial or material aid offered by local authorities. It is therefore advisable to contact regional, departmental or municipal services for information.
