The Instituto Costarricense de Ferrocarriles (Incofer) suspended the train service between San José, Heredia and Alajuela for two more weeks.

The entity indicated that the works carried out to stabilize the sinking area in Santa Rosa de Santo Domingo de Heredia will require a longer term than initially stipulated.

According to estimates, it will take at least two more weeks to complete the proposed tasks.

The executive president of Incofer, Elizabeth Briceño, explained that through an analysis of the soil, it was determined that the main containment structure must be extended, as well as the dimensions of the walls, this so that the construction is two meters higher and one meter wider.

That is why as of this Friday, May 7, the works began to build the retaining wall that will provide greater stability to the land.

Incofer confirmed that it will resume rail operation until conditions are safe for users.
