With more than a thousand events throughout the city, the Amsterdam Dance Event attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world every year. But not everyone takes it for granted to visit an ADE party. For example, for the people in the asylum seeker center on Willinklaan in Osdorp.
This year the AZC in Nieuw-West is one of the two hundred locations where the Amsterdam Dance Event is celebrated. The event is intended for residents. There is dancing and rapping and workshops are also given.
There is a drawing room where people can make self-portraits and a music room where people can learn to play an instrument. “You just notice a lot of positive reactions,” says organizer Aris van Ham. “This is an event that puts them in a very positive light.”
Encouraging
This is not the only party organized for groups that you would not immediately associate with a dance party. “We have an ADE party for the elderly, the homeless and people with disabilities.” According to Van Ham, it is important that they also have the opportunity to celebrate life.
“Cozy and relaxed,” one of the residents calls it. “People need such activities to forget about the stress a bit.”
Another resident, a rapper who is giving one of the performances tonight, is also enthusiastic about the initiative. “This is encouraging. There are many things that destroy us, but music unites makes us. So I think this is very good.”
