Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Twelve Indian Ministers resigned on Wednesday (7/7), including the Ministers of Health (Menkes), Environment and Education. This was revealed by the Office of the President of India, as reported by AFP, Wednesday (7/7).
The resignation is part of a sweeping reshuffle by Prime Minister Narendra Modi following a spike in Covid-19 cases and ahead of state elections.
Health Minister Hars Vardhan has come under particular criticism during the spike in Covid-19 cases in April and May. Health services are under heavy pressure in many areas, with hospitals running out of beds as well as medical oxygen and medicine.
The Minister of Law and Justice and Information Technology, Ravi Shankar Prasad, has also been embroiled in bitter disputes in recent months with foreign social media companies.
Other ministers who resigned were Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change, as well as Broadcasting Information and Heavy Industry. Also Indian Minister of Education Ramsh Pokhriyal Nishank.
